Let’s be honest for a second. If you’ve spent the last few months (or years) doing bootcamp classes, circuits, spin, dance, Zumba, or sweat style workouts that leave you dripping and gasping for air but your body hasn’t changed much, you’re not alone. And more importantly, you’re not doing anything wrong. But you might be missing something. See, there’s a big difference between chasing calorie burn and building a body that burns more calories all day, every day.
And that difference is strength training. Sweat sessions feel great but they don’t build much (apart from maybe an improvement in your cardio fitness). Look, I'm not here to bash Zumba or spin. We actually run a Saturday shred session every week as a complement to our Group PT programme. There’s nothing wrong with breaking a sweat, having fun, and feeling like you’ve done something. But if your only approach to fat loss is "burn calories now and worry about the rest later", you’re going to hit a wall. You can only out cardio an unbalanced diet for so long. You can only do so many burpees before your knees start asking questions. Most importantly, you’re not changing or upgrading your engine. Muscle is the real game changer Building lean muscle (no, you won’t get big or bulky) is one of the best things you can do for long term fat loss. Why? Because muscle is metabolically active. It burns more energy at rest. It gives you shape. It supports your joints. It improves posture, movement, confidence, and quality of life. And the only way to build it? Strength focused training, done consistently over an extended period of time with structure and progression. But I want to feel fitter too David! Good. You should. That’s why our approach blends strength training with progressive conditioning work. Aerobic and anaerobic. Challenging you in different ways across different energy systems. You won’t just be lifting. You’ll be moving, breathing, carrying, pushing, pulling, and building an engine that actually lasts. Not just burning out your nervous system in every session. And what about fat loss? Isn't it all about calories? Yes. Fat loss still comes down to energy balance. Calories in vs. calories out. But the best training plan in the world won’t fix an approach to nutrition that’s all over the place. That’s why we focus on coaching, not just classes. We talk to our members. We check in. We ask about sleep, food, stress, and what’s going on outside the gym. You can burn 500 calories in a class (or training session, as we like to call them). Or you can build a body that burns more every single day with better habits, stronger muscles, and a proper plan. This is coaching, not chaos.
