Are you thinking about getting back into training but feeling nervous, unsure or even a little bit embarrassed about joining a gym? You’re not alone. Key Takeaways:
I've heard this so many times over the last 15-20 years as a coach - especially from adults over 40 who haven’t trained in a while or who have had negative experiences in the past.
“I won’t be able for it.” “I’ll be the most unfit person there.” “I wouldn’t know where to start.” “People will be looking at me.” “I’m too old to start again.” "The gym will be packed." "There'll be mirrors everywhere." "I'll be surrounded by influencers taking videos on their phones." Sound familiar? Here’s the truth. These thoughts are common. But they’re also what stop a lot of good people from making a change. And the real cost isn’t the membership or the sessions. It’s what you miss out on by putting it off. You stay stuck. You feel more sluggish, more frustrated, more fed up. And another month or year passes without making the changes you know you need. So what can you do about it? Let’s break it down. 1. Find a gym that actually supports beginners - and builds you up Not every gym is full of egos and mirrors. At Evolutis, most of our members are over 40 (all the way up to 60+). Many hadn’t trained in years. Some had never set foot in a gym before. What they needed was support, not judgment. Look for:
2. Focus on showing up, not being perfect You don’t need to be fit to start. That’s the whole point. If you wait until you feel ready, you might be waiting forever. The people who get results are the ones who say: “I’ll go. I’ll give it a try. And I’ll keep going, even if I feel nervous.” 3. Don’t go it alone The right coach will meet you where you’re at - not where they think you ‘should’ be.Trying to figure everything out yourself is overwhelming. You’re not supposed to know what to do. That’s what coaching is for. When you train in a supportive environment, you feel safer, more confident and more motivated to keep going. And that’s when progress actually starts. 4. Ask yourself - what’s the cost of not doing it? It’s easy to focus on the fear of starting. But what about the cost of not starting?
These things add up. And they don’t improve on their own. So here’s what we recommend Start small. Try a 6-week program. Pick two or three days a week and commit to them. Build the habit. Focus on:
Final Word If you’re nervous, we get it. Most of the people at Evolutis felt the same way before they walked through the door. But they did it anyway. And now they’re stronger, fitter and more confident. If you’ve been thinking about it for a while…maybe now is your time.
