Struggling to See Progress With Fat Loss? You’re (Probably) Not Alone.

At Evolutis Gym in Coolock, we often hear from people who feel frustrated because they’re training consistently but aren’t seeing the weight loss or measurement changes they were hoping for. If this sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone.

Recently, one of our members, Mark, came to us feeling exactly this way. He was working hard, showing up to sessions, and putting in the effort, but the results just weren’t matching the effort. Here’s the approach we’re taking with him – and it might be just what you need too....

​🏋️‍♂️ The Game Changer: Shift Your Focus to Strength

During our chat, Mark admitted that he loves the sweat and “feel-good” factor of conditioning-style sessions. And while these sessions are great, the problem was that he wasn’t pushing his strength enough.

Why is strength training so important?

While conditioning sessions can burn more calories in the moment, building muscle is what makes the real difference over time. More muscle means more metabolic tissue, and more metabolic tissue means a higher resting metabolism. In simple terms – you’ll burn more fat even while you’re resting.

Our Plan:

We recommended that Mark shift his focus to lifting heavier weights, particularly on big compound movements like:
​
  • Squats
  • Deadlifts
  • Bench Press

Building strength builds muscle, and muscle drives fat loss. It’s not about lifting heavy just for the sake of it – it’s about creating the right conditions for your body to burn more fat, even when you’re not training.

If you’re training but haven’t been seeing the results you want, shifting your focus to strength could be the game-changer you need.


🚦 Other Levers to Pull

While shifting focus to strength was the biggest change for Mark, we also identified other areas that could be holding him back. If you’re not seeing results, these might be worth considering too:

1. Low-Intensity Aerobic Activity

Adding in light cardio sessions, like walking or other low-intensity activities, increases your overall calorie burn without burning you out. This aligns perfectly with our homework approach at Evolutis Gym, where we encourage members to do a minimum of:

  • 3 x 30-minute low-intensity activities each week outside of gym sessions.

It’s a simple addition that can make a big difference over time.

2. Water Intake & Sleep Quality

These are often overlooked but are incredibly powerful. Better hydration and quality sleep contribute to:
  • Improved recovery and performance
  • Better energy levels throughout the day
  • Enhanced weight management and appetite control

If you’re training hard at Evolutis Gym in Coolock but not paying attention to these basics, you’re leaving progress on the table.

3. Nutrition Tracking


We suggested Mark write down EVERYTHING he eats and drinks, even just for a few days. This isn’t about calorie counting – it’s about awareness.
Often, people don’t realise where extra calories are sneaking in, whether it’s from snacking, portion sizes, or hidden calories in drinks. Writing it down brings awareness and clarity, making it easier to make small changes that lead to big results.

This approach isn’t just about one person – it’s about helping all of you make progress. At Evolutis Gym in Coolock, we believe that sometimes the answer isn’t more training or even “harder” or “sweatier” training; it’s smarter training combined with lifestyle changes.

As we always say:

“More isn't better, better is better”

Here are the questions to ask yourself:

  • 👉 Do you need to push strength more?
  • 👉 Could low-intensity cardio help you burn more calories?
  • 👉 Are you drinking enough water and getting enough sleep?
  • 👉 Do you need more awareness around your eating habits?

If you’re just starting out, the approach is even simpler. Just show up consistently to training for a period of time. Bring some real intent to put in the effort, and you’ll be fine. Consistency over time is the secret sauce!
