So maybe Easter got the better of you. Or the last few months have flown by and summer's getting closer. Whatever the reason - if you're thinking, "Right, time to finally get moving again" - here's where to start. You don't need a gym. You don't need fancy gear. And you definitely don't need to be "fit" to begin. Here are 5 solid exercises we recommend to anyone starting (or restarting) their fitness journey: 1. Bodyweight Squat Brilliant for legs, hips and posture. Start by squatting down to a chair and standing back up. Use your arms for balance if needed. Aim for 8-12 slow reps. 2. Incline Push-Up Great for upper body strength and core. Do it against a kitchen counter or sturdy bench to start. As you get stronger, lower the height. 8-10 reps is plenty. 3. Step-Ups Use stairs, a step, or a solid box. One leg at a time, up and down. Helps build leg strength and balance. Go slow, aim for 8-10 each side. 4. Dead Bug (or Core Hold) One of the best core exercises around. Lying on your back, arms and legs in the air. Slowly lower opposite arm and leg. Keeps the back happy, core strong. 5-8 controlled reps each side. 5. Walking (or Walking Intervals) Massively underrated. Get outside and walk. Start with 10-15 minutes if you're not used to it. Or mix in 1 minute faster pace, 1 minute slower for a bit of structure. Final word? If you're over 40, tired of starting over, and finally ready to stick with something - these movements are a brilliant place to begin. Start slow. Do what you can. Build from there.
