I saw a piece recently about Westwood Gym having to cancel memberships due to declining standards of behaviour. Things like:

Westwood is a high-end gym. Great facilities. Plenty of equipment. Swimming pools, saunas, recovery areas. Tennis courts. So much so, I’ve used it myself, mainly for the pool and recovery side of things. And if I wanted to train there, I could. I know what I’m doing. I’d work around people. I’d jump in between sets if needed. It might annoy me at times, but I’d get on with it. But that’s the key point… Most people aren’t like that. For a lot of people, especially busy, stressed out 40+ men and women, that environment can be difficult to navigate. You walk in and:

And over time, you stop going. Not because you don’t care. Because the environment doesn’t suit you. This is where most gyms struggle. They’re built around scale and access. You come in. You use the space. You manage yourself. That works for confident, experienced gym users. But for most people… Environment matters more than equipment. And environment is driven by standards.
