As men age, they may begin to notice changes in their physical and mental health. For many men over 40, a decrease in testosterone levels can lead to a loss of muscle mass and strength. This loss can be compounded by a sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary habits, leading to a range of health problems, including depression and anxiety. Fortunately, there is a way to combat these issues: strength training.

One of the problems you may have faced with making the decision to get (re)started on improving your health & fitness has probably been a bit of fear of the unknown.
Walking into a new gym by yourself. Flying solo. Not knowing anyone...... I was talking to someone this week about something which I found kind of upsetting.
You see this person has achieved some awesome things with their health, fitness & strength. The thing is - the stresses and strains of life have got in the way. To the point where this person feels as though they are off track and have taken a few backwards steps. So much so that they are very self conscious and think that other people may be looking at or judging them. ...and this upset me for one reason...... I was talking to a couple of members this morning about the type of progress we want to see with their training.
You see right now we have all the members looking to add extra reps each week. In other words - Increase the volume. Because we want to make and see some form of progress each week..... ....and this approach is the basis on which we are building real improvements in strength over the next few months.... The issue is when you try to rush the process.... So apparently being healthy is "boring".....
At least according to the person I spoke to the other day. The point they made was that to be fit and healthy, they felt you had to eat the same "boring" meals all the time. Maybe you've felt the same? Anyway.... Have you found it difficult to stay committed to showing up to the gym?
Find that there are days where the motivation just isn't there? You know you SHOULD show up but the little gremlin on your shoulder has a tendency to convince you to put it off to "tomorrow".... When you FEEL better, right? Here's the thing...... Have you had your BP checked recently?
Maybe it's something you think might be an issue? If you have ANY concerns with regards to your BP - it's definitely something I'd recommend you speak to your GP about asap and for a few reasons....... I've spoken a lot recently about how I'm glad we've (people in general & the fitness industry) stopped focusing on things like 6 week transformations, challenges and fad or gimmick diets as a way to get "results"....
The weight loss rollercoaster as I like to call it! I'll tell you why.... Let me provide a bit of context.
I've been in the sport & fitness game for almost 15 years. In my time I've created & launched multiple programs, owned and operated two gyms and have worked with 1000s of people. So I've seen a few trends come and go. More recently I've seen a change in attitude from the people who are choosing to work with us and join Evolutis - but also in conversations I'm having with people in general. And this is why I firmly believe that the gym (as it has been in the past) is dead. So a common question for us is - do you NEED to count calories?
The simple answer is no. However, if your goal is one of the following...
You will need to find some way to manage your calorie intake. (Combined with good strength training + NEAT) As much as you might not like to count calories your body will count them for you! So what options do you have? Read on to find out.... |
