When you’re juggling parenting with fitness, it can feel like you never have enough time to truly assess what you eat. After all, being a parent is demanding, and you’d always rather spend time with your kids than scanning the label of any food product you buy!

To save you some time, here’s a list of 20 foods that you can always count on when trying to control your calorie intake to lose weight. They are guaranteed to be low in calories, so you can reach for them when you’re in a rush without having to worry about the consequences later.

#1 - Celery

An often-reported myth suggests that eating celery will cause you to lose weight as your body burns more calories to digest it than celery actually contains. That isn’t true, but celery is largely calorie neutral, so indulge to your heart’s content.

#2 - Watercress

Delicious, nutritious, and incredibly low in calories; adding watercress to your diet is nothing but beneficial.

#3 - Scallops

Scallops are delicious, offer a great protein boost, and contain a number of vital vitamins and minerals.

#4 - Asparagus

Low in calories and full of B vitamins, asparagus is the perfect snack when you’re in a rush.

#5 - Plums

Fruit can be incredibly calorific due to the sugar content, but plums are a great choice with a number of nutritional benefits to boot.

#6 - Strawberry

Berries in general are good low-calorie fruit options, but strawberries -- with their high nutritional density -- are the pick of the crop.

#7 - Swiss chard

Packed with nutrients and surprisingly versatile, Swiss chard is an excellent choice if you’re watching your calories.

#8 - Cottage cheese

Finally, a comfort food that isn’t a calorific disaster!

#9 - Green bell peppers

Rich in vital nutrients and delicious, green bell peppers will always have a place in a calorie-controlled menu.

#10 - Mushrooms

Full of flavour and antioxidants, mushrooms are a versatile low-calorie option.

#11 - Summer squash

By far the best of the squash family in terms of calories, summer squash adds perfect crunch to meals without any compromise on taste.

#12 - Shrimp and prawns

Rich in iron and protein, shrimp and prawns are lower in calorie than meat while providing the same function in a dish.

#13 - Tomatoes

Tomatoes can be used as sauces or garnishes, are low in calorie, and add colour and texture to food-- the perfect combination.

#14 - Bok Choy

Bok choy offers plenty of potassium, a good serving of protein, and a fantastic overall eating experience.

#15 - Spinach

While it won’t quite have the Popeye impact on you, spinach is a low-calorie vegetable that offers a strong nutritional value to your diet.

#16 - Kiwi fruit

Delicious and easy to eat on the go, Kiwi fruit is essential for busy parents who are watching their calories.

#17 - Cauliflower

Served alone or turned into cauliflower rice, the high protein content and low calories of cauliflower make it a fantastic choice.

#18 - Radishes

A spicy kick and delightfully low-calorie, cooking with radishes is of huge benefit.

#19 - Purslane

This edible weed is easy to find, rich with nutrients, and can even be found free if you’re willing to scavenge!

#20 - Star fruit

Packed with vitamin C and good for calorie-controlled dieters, star fruit is a delightful option you won’t want to miss.
All low-calorie foods work best when combined with a balanced diet and a great exercise regime. We have discussed the Precision Nutrition way of balancing your diet before and including vigorous exercise 3-4 times a week will help to increase that calorie deficit.

We at Evolutis, would be delighted to help you make the most of these foods and help to deliver the results you want. Feel free to get in touch with any questions!

That's really informative. I thinking adding the number of calories against certain quantity would have made it more helpful which choose which all foods to include. What are your thoughts about it?
