How's your day going? Kids off school due to the "storm"? Yeah - me too. It seems as though Jesus decided a plague wasn't enough and that we all had to suffer his wrath with a storm of WIND & FIRE!!! (The fire part may or may not be true....) In any case - I first heard the word "Blamestorming" yonks ago.......... Back in my previous life as an IT manager/Project manager. The premise of it was simple. Instead of putting collective minds together to focus on any positives or solutions to problems, a group of people may be guilty of getting together and wasting huge amounts of time and energy coming up with loads of reasons why it's something or someone else's fault that things haven't worked out. "It's definitely not OUR fault!" I think this is an appropriate analogy for the last 24 hours. You see, I had to close my gym temporarily this morning due to safety reasons. The weather warning was pretty stark. Schools were off. It's not that I actually WANTED to close the gym this morning. In fact loads of members probably would have rocked up to the gym if I'd gone against the public advice or guidance. Who knows, maybe nothing would have happened. After all - it's only a bit of wind, right? Maybe. Until someone got injured. Or worse god forbid. (There's also the small matter of my insurance company telling me I'm screwed if something did go wrong - but that's a whole other story!) Considering the last couple of years - I'd be forgiven for shaking my fist angrily at the big man in the sky. In true Grandpa Simpson style! :-D Giving out about how it's somebody or something elses fault that I had to close my gym. AGAIN!!!!! Instead - I did what I felt was right.....
Something else I'd like to add is that from a personal & professional point of view - if you are doing the things you're supposed to be doing consistently, the unexpected "storms" won't knock you off track. I've been training 5 times a week for months. So a missed or moved session doesn't change anything for me. Members of the gym are also in on average 3 times per week so even if there was a missed session this morning they can go again at any one of the 50+ training slots available to them for the rest of the week. Which brings me full circle to a few simple tips you can apply to your fitness, meaning you can stay on track and avoid getting caught up in a bit of blame storming...
Hope that helps. If it does - reply to let me know! :) David "you are in ALWAYS in charge of the outcome" Knowles P.S. I've had a good bit of interest in people wanting to get started with us. The bad news is we aren't taking on any new members until January! :( - The GOOD news is you can get your name on our waiting list now so you don;'t miss out in January. Just email me ([email protected]) & I'll give you a shout to explain everything. :)
