Earlier this week my little girl Valentina had a bit of an upset stomach. To the point she was up late with a bit of discomfort & needed some medicine................. She hates medicine unless it tastes nice.
Like most 6 year olds! Here's the thing though. Knowing it will make her feel better means she'll take her medicine. Short term pain, long term gain. After she was feeling a bit better and I had her wrapped up on the couch - I took advantage of the situation. Like any sneaky parent would. You see she isn't always great at eating her vegetables. To the point I've been sneaking handfuls of spinach into her breakfast smoothies. (Which are THE best smoothies in the WORLD according to Valentina.....) She's definitely right! :-D So anyway. What I did was this. I told Valentina that the reason she felt unwell was because she didn't eat her vegetables often enough. In particular I said she needs to eat more brocolli. Yes - I know. I'm going to parenting hell. But I don't care. I love my little girl and a little white lie to get her eating better is worth it. What happened in that moment was this. Valentina decided that she needed to do something she didn't necessarily want to do. To feel better. Or to make sure she didn't get sick. She did the maths in her head and decided the "benefit" of eating yucky brocolli worked out more than the "cost". Needless to say she's been eating her brocolli all week! :) Why the hell am I telling you this? Well it would seem that lots of grown ups I speak to or work with seem to think that they don't need to eat their "brocolli". Or in other words - doing the things you know you NEED to do that will help you to improve your fitness, health, mobility, strength or simply to make you feel better. Like yucky exercise for example! Know what I mean? Good. What I want you to do is to think of ONE thing you know you NEED to do to improve your fitness & health but have been avoiding or putting off. And when you have something - I want you to let me know what it is and make a commitment to doing it over the next week. Even if you don't want to. Alright? Have an awesome weekend....
