If there is one thing I understand is how to "fail". I've attempted many things in life and fallen short. On the other hand, I can say that in many aspects of life I've also been "successful" and achieved many of the goals I've set myself. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that if I have succeeded in anything it has ALWAYS been down to my (positive) mindset. How I talk to myself.
My commitment to showing up every day. Trusting and focusing on the process NOT the outcome. You see - Your mindset is based on your own perspective and how you choose to see yourself or your situation. Read that again. Your mindset is based on your own perspective and how you choose to see yourself or your situation. So. The question is, how do you know how your mindset is holding you back? Well, it usually bolls down to a few (or more) of these things.... Negative Mindset - Have a tendency to feel sorry for yourself - Think confidence is a feeling - Make excuses - Say it's too hard or impossible - Focus on how you feel - Use the phrase "I have to" often - Wear your emotions on your sleeve - See failure as final - Focus on what you can't control If you are being honest with yourself - how much of "you" do you recognise in the list above? Here's the thing. If you're able to run your own "performance" in life through this negative mindset filter - and identify things you need to work on - you are already one step closer to achieving better results. This is because improving your awareness (aka being honest with yourself) is step 1 on the way to becoming a fitter, healthier and happier version of you. With that in mind, have a look at an alternate list to the one above. Positive Mindset - So focused on others you don't have time to feel sorry for yourself - Know that confidence is an action - Make things happen - Accept that it will be very hard - Focus on how you act and what you need to do - Use the phrase "get to" or "want to" - Stop showing weakness & use positive body language - See failure as positive feedback - Focus on what you can control Much more positive and empowering, right? The question is - How many of these things are you going to apply to your daily life? What is it you are going to do today to change your mindset to a more positive focus? In other words, what is your strategy going to be? This is step 2. Now. Go one step further. Share ONE of these things in the comments. I dare you to take action. Right now. This is step 3. What are you waiting for? You've got this. 🤛 David P.S. The 3 step process for achieving more is: 1) Build your own awareness 2) Create a (new) strategy 3) Take (positive) action P.P.S. The picture I've attached is me hopping over one of the last fences on the home straight of the Hell & Back 12km obstacle course a couple of years ago. The thing is, this picture was taken during my second time around the course on the same day. I committed to doing it twice in a row in the name of charity. When I crossed the line the first time around I was physically exhausted as I'd ran the course. I walked through the food tent and at that moment if I'd listened to myself or how I felt, I would have sat down and not got back up. Instead, I told myself I was doing it again, called one of the staff and got him to lead me back to the start and off I went. One step in front of the other. I trusted the process, again, and I made it around, again. Next time I'll tell you about the time I trained for and ran a sub 20min 5k, sub 40min 10k, 3 x half marathons in the space of 5 days finishing up with the Dublin marathon in 3h30mins - all in the space of 4 months.
