Have you found it difficult to stay committed to showing up to the gym? Find that there are days where the motivation just isn't there? You know you SHOULD show up but the little gremlin on your shoulder has a tendency to convince you to put it off to "tomorrow".... When you FEEL better, right? Here's the thing...... Motivation is a FINITE resource and it's very normal to get a burst of the M word which inspires you to take some form of action.
Like join a gym for example. However, motivation WILL fade and so what do you do in that situation? Well - as we say to our members a LOT - there are times when you won't feel like doing something - in those situations you will need to "act your way into feeling".... Taking ACTION consistently is the thing that will help you to build the habit. .....and habits are the things that put you where you are today. Apart from this advice we also like to do our best to encourage members to show up. Initiatives, incentives, challenges & games for example. One of these methods is our attendance belt or wristband system. What's with the wristbands David?? Well, you know the way in Karate you get your white, yellow or green belt based on the progress you are making? Well, we have a similar system in Evolutis as part of our Group Personal Training program that our members LOVE. When you reach 30 sessions you get your white "belt", 60 sessions gives you your yellow "belt", 90 sessions is your "green" belt and so on..... It's a really simple, but effective, way of encouraging people to develop the habit of showing up. Because the more you show up the more you'll enjoy your training. ....and the more you enjoy your training the better your results will be! There's also the added bonus of being able to walk around the gym showing off. :) Anyway, my take away points for you today are as follows..... 1) Motivation will come & go 2) When in doubt, act your way into feeling 3) Develop the habit of showing up - even when you don't want to! If you haven't seen it yet make some time for it - it's very funny and HIGHLY inappropriate for kids! :-D P.P.S.
